Otters - 3 - 5 years "Otters" - 2 1/2 to 5 years ABC

The Otters room is for our Pre-Schoolers and is led by Caroline, Jenny and Tanya

The Pre-School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The four themes are:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • learning and Development.

The six areas of learning are

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the World
  2. Communication, Language and Literacy
  3. Physical development
  4. Personal, social and emotional development
  5. Creative Development
  6. Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy

At the start of each day the children come into the Setting and self-register with a laminated card with their name and photo on it. They put their name on the Register wall, then add a smiley face if they are happy today, or a sad face if they are not. Staff also take a separate register as the children arrive

Coat Pegs

Our aim is to promote each child's independence and individuality. With that in mind the children are able to choose what they would like to play with.

We have a half-termly "Topic Web" with a different theme each time. These are sent to parents so they can support the themes/topics at home.

During each Term parents are invited to review their Child's progress with their Key Worker.

In the creative area they can choose craft, painting, sand, water, musical instruments, songs and dance etc. There is a "role play" area with a house, play cooker and sink, dressing up clothes, dolls and soft toys - designed to stimulate and develop imaginative play.

The children can also access the large outdoor play area and garden, currently in its 2nd Phase of development. The latest addition is a wonderful purpose built wooden bandstand where the children can play and make up their own games, and which will serve as valued shelter in hot weather and when it rains.

The play area has bikes, trikes, and a large covered sandpit. There is also a planting area for the children to plant their own vegatables.
