About Wakoos

WAKOOS was founded by 2 members of staff from the Weald School in 1988, wanting to ensure their children had care during work hours. WAKOOS stood for the Weald Activities for Kids Out of School. WAKOOS soon expanded and extended the service to the community including neighbouring villages. Since the opening of dedicated huts located on the Weald School site, WAKOOS were soon able to offer childcare to 36 children. For the first time, term time only hours were expanded to full day care for 51 weeks of the year

In 2008, WAKOOS re-located to a new purpose built environment which is also home to the Billingshurst Family and Children Centre. WAKOOS are now able to offer childcare up to 80 children at any one time within the secure indoor and outdoor areas.

The Centre

WAKOOS are equipped to take children from birth through to 11 years old. The Centre is divided into areas enabling staff and children to work and play safely. Each of these areas has been given a name: "Wallabies" for the Baby Room, "Koalas" for the Nursery Room, "Otters" for the Pre-School Room and "Sharks" for the After School Club. The office for WAKOOS is also located on site. Staff at WAKOOS are highly trained to provide best possible childcare.

Management

WAKOOS is managed by the Nursery Manager with support and direction from the Trustees who are parent volunteers. The parents are local people providing their local and professional knowledge into the business. Over the years, WAKOOS has seen a number of changes to the Trustees, each change continues to see one thing in common: to ensure'High Quality Childcare'.
